What do academics do all day? This talk draws on findings from an ESRC-funded project based in the Lancaster Literacy Research Centre exploring the writing practices of academics in different disciplines and institutions. The presenter will discuss academics' own accounts of the wide range of writing they engage in on a day-to-day basis, how they manage these in light of sometimes conflicting values and priorities, and how doctoral students might prepare themselves for the transition into academic roles.
