Tackling Modern Slavery: The Role of Regulation, Data, and AI

This workshop, held on 7 June 2024, was dedicated to combating modern slavery, showcasing pioneering research, collaborations, and activities conducted at LUMS. The aim of the workshop was to discover how regulation, data, and artificial intelligence play a crucial role in eradicating this pressing issue. WikiRate (an open data platform powered by the community) demonstrated its pioneering the use of data to study modern slavery compliance, providing important insights that drive change. A team from Lancaster University also showcased how AI can be used to assess modern slavery risk. Furthermore, as an integral part of the program, the Knowledge and Action Hub: Modern slavery, justice and complex supply chains at the Pentland Centre hosted a roundtable discussion on the roles of regulation and awareness in eradicating slavery. Participants included academics from various disciplines, as well as industry practitioners working in the area of modern slavery.
