Hello Sailor! Gay Life at sea exhibition

Press/Media: Research

Description

The exhibition Hello Sailor! Gay Life at sea, is becoming even more mobile. It's sailing off, - well, flying - to Halifax Nova Scotia, to open in May 2011. The exhibition was co-curated by CeMoRe Reseach Fellow Jo Stanley for Merseyside Maritime Museum. It's the first in the world to deal with the mobilities of LGBT seafarers - professional voyagers who appropriated merchant ships as transgressive and highly supportive queer spaces.

See Canada's take on it at http://thechronicleherald.ca/ArtsLife/1232686.html

Jo is proposing a paper about the exhibition's travels and re-locations for Transport and Mobility on Display, the 9th conference of the International Association for the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility in Berlin in October 2011. http://t2m.org/conferences/berlin-2011/
