Description

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) congratulates Professor Louise Heathwaite on her appointment to the Scottish Government as Chief Scientific Adviser, Rural and Environment.

Louise currently holds a Professorial post at Lancaster University where she is a Director of the Centre for Sustainable Water Management in the Lancaster Environment Centre. She is also a NERC Theme Leader for the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources Theme and has particular expertise in the fields of diffuse pollution and water quality.

While her primary role will be to drive forward the integration of science across the Rural Affairs and Environment Portfolio in collaboration with Rural and Environment Science and Analytical Services (RESAS), she will also work with the other Scottish Government Chief Scientific Advisers, and the Analytical Heads to ensure a joined up approach to the delivery of a high quality evidence base to support policy development.

She will fill the role on a part time basis and will take up the post in September.
