Professor Louise Heathwaite joins UKCDS Board

We are delighted to welcome Professor Louise Heathwaite as a new member of the UKCDS Steering Board, replacing Professor Anne Glover as a representative of the Scottish Government.

From September 2012, Professor Heathwaite will take up the role of Chief Scientific Adviser, Rural and Environment, to the Scottish Government. She will work with the other Scottish Government Chief Scientific Advisers and Analytical Heads to ensure a joined up approach to the delivery of a high quality evidence base to support policy development.

She currently holds a Professorial post at Lancaster University where she is a Director of the Centre for Sustainable Water Management in the Lancaster Environment Centre. She is a NERC Theme Leader for the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources Theme and a member of Defra's Science Advisory Council.

Louise has over 25 years experience in land and water systems science. Current research includes work on diffuse pollution modelling; pathogen transfers from land to water; hyporheic zone processes; cross-disciplinary analysis of knowledge exchange and effectiveness of animal disease management; and quantifying phosphorus delivery from land to water.
