Description

Welcome to Postdoctoral Visitor Sebastian Ureta

"I am a lecturer in the Institute of Sociology, Universidad Catalica de Chile. I obtained a PhD in Media and Communications at London School of Economics with the thesis "Machines for living in: communication technologies and everyday life in times of urban transformation" (2006). My research explores the connections among topics of technology, mobility, everyday life and social exclusion. Since the beginning of 2007 I've been working in a research project provisionally entitled "The 'multiple user' of Transantiago" which deals with the multiple enactments of the users of a new public transport system launch in the city of Santiago, Chile at the beginning of 2007 (for more details about Transantiago see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transantiago). Using a combination of both Mobility Research and Actor-Network Theory analytical frameworks the aim of the project is to define and contrast the multiple (and often contradictory) ways in which the 'user of Transantiago' has been defined and understood by a series of both governmental and private actors during the development of Transantiago and how these enactments interact with the human beings, mostly low income population, who start using Transantiago for their daily travel since February 2007.
