Organisation profile

Engineering Department staff play a major role in Energy Lancaster, a cross-disciplinary centre that brings together Lancaster University’s expertise in a wide range of energy related areas covering the demand and supply of energy. Research foci within the Department include nuclear, clean combustion, fuel cells, transport, energy policy and renewables.

Research in the last of these is pursued through LUREG (the Lancaster University Renewable Energy Group), which has a strong research track record in wave and tidal energy, low-head hydropower and wind power. Nuclear energy research encompasses fission, fusion, decommissioning (through the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Nuclear Engineering & Decommissioning Research Centre), safeguards & security, and Radiometrics & Instrumentation. Energy policy work focusses on energy use in transport, electricity supply & distribution, and heat policy.

More information on the Energy Group’s activities can be found on the webpages of individual staff accessible through the "People" tab above, the LUREG website (http://www.engineering.lancs.ac.uk/lureg/) or on the Energy Lancaster website (http://www.energy.lancs.ac.uk/).
