Research overview

- Time series analysis

- Spatial statistics and spatiotemporal data

- Continuous-time stochastic processes

- Frequency-domain analysis

- Applications spanning oceanography, geoscience, management science, and health data

PhD supervision

I am interested in supervising PhD students in the broad areas of time series and spatial statistics. Proposals are welcome in developing methodological and computational advances in space-time “big data” analysis, as well as the application of such methods in areas including oceanography, climate, public health, and finance.

My Role

Programme Director, MSc Data Science

Seminar Organiser, Data Science Institute

Early Career Representative, Lancaster University Research Committee

External Roles

- Associate Editor, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series C)

- Working Group Member, US Climate Variability and Predictability Program, Ocean Uncertainty Quantification

Current Teaching

MATH104 Statistics

PhD Supervisions Completed

Dr Arthur P Guillaumin (UCL, 2014-2017)

Profile

My research interests are in time series and spatial statistics. I have a particular interest in large spatiotemporal datasets, for example from instruments deployed in the ocean used to track ocean surface flow, or accelerometers used to monitor the activity of individuals in the health sciences. More broadly I enjoy applying frequency-domain analysis to real-world problems, and developing methodology for stochastic modelling, parameter estimation, simulation, and hypothesis testing.
