Research Interests

My main subject of research is Religious History in Britain during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The main area of my work is Shropshire and the Welsh Marches, with some work on Wales. I have published articles on the establishment of Protestantism in Shrewsbury, on religious conflict there and elsewhere in Shropshire; on puritan preachers; Presbyteriansim in Shropshire; preachers and Jews in the Cromwellian period; and some aspects of Catholic recusancy.

The journals which have published my work since 1996 include The Sixteenth Century Journal, Midland History, Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological Society, Journal of the Cromwell Association, Baptist Quarterly, Recusant History. I have averaged one article a year.

I am now working on a book on Shrewsbury from 1400 to 1700.
