Dr David Torres Sanchez

Research student

In partnership with Rolls-Royce Holdings plc (RR), my PhD project aims to improve the optimality of maintenance scheduling procedures by implementing a combinatorial optimisation approach. Current systems in place produce suboptimal schedules which propagate delays and induce huge profit losses, for both the airline and RR. My research is on developing a large-scale algorithm that will solve this problem. My academic supervisors are Burak Boyaci and Konstantinos Zografos and my industrial supervisor is Richard Standing.

I graduated from the University of Essex in July 2015 with a BSc in Mathematics. It included modules in both Pure and Applied mathematics and the chance to obtain some valuable experience in teaching. I became increasingly interested in both Statistics and OR due to their ability to shape the world around us, hence my progression to STOR-i.
