Romantic and Victorian literature and culture; literary geographies; digital humanities; space and place theory; the Lake District

My research specialism is literature and culture of the long nineteenth century, particularly Romantic poetry and environmental history. My work explores how texts from this era engage with phenomenologies of space and place, literary geographies and developments in ecological thinking. I am particularly interested in how digital techniques - particularly digital cartographies, including GIS and virtual globes - can facilitate the discussion, presentation and development of humanities study. I am currently the Research Associate on the Digital Humanities project Geospatial Innovations in the Digital Humanities, which is funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I contribute to teaching on a number of modules in English and History, including HIST-426: Digital Humanities, and I co-convene the English and Creative Writing module ENGL-445: Nineteenth-Century Literature: Place - Space - Text. I also supervise an MA dissertation on the regional history of Lancashire.
