Research overview

My research addresses the sources, fate, behaviour and impacts of organic contaminants in the environment. I aim to understand the global scale source-distribution-sink of compounds and investigate inter-media contaminant transfers (air-water-soil etc). We investigate the relationship between use and release of a chemical and its levels in tissue in humans and wildlife. I develop and deploy passive sampling techniques to monitor chemicals in space and time. I address chemical and resource management and enjoy working with international collaborators, government, policy makers, industry and business.

Research Interests

Environmental behaviour and effects of organic contaminants, particularly: Inter-media transfers and global cycling of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Fate and behaviour of organic chemicals, primarily in terrestrial environments. Trends in environmental POPs contamination and the implications for sources. Human exposure to organic chemicals. Waste disposal to land and soil contamination.
