Profile

Konstantinos G. Zografos is Distinguished Professor, Associate Dean for Research, and Director of the Centre for Transport and Logistics (CENTRAL), at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS). His professional expertise, research and teaching interests include applications of Operational Research in Transportation and Logistics. Currently his work is focused on airport planning and operations, air traffic management, vehicle routing and scheduling, hazardous materials transportation, emergency response logistics, itinerary planning, and project management. He has more than 150 professional publications, and he has been involved in more than 70 R&D projects funded by the European Commission, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Hellenic Republic, and private companies and organizations in Greece, the European Union, and USA.

He is/was a member of the Editorial Board of Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, Operational Research: An International Journal, Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, International Journal of Logistics Economics and Globalization, and Journal of Aerospace Operations, and  served as co-editor of the special issue of Transportation Science on Hazardous Material Transportation.  He is a member of the Committees on i) ‘Airport Terminals and Ground Access’, ‘Hazardous Materials Transportation’, and ‘Airfield Capacity and Delays’ of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), The National Academies of Science-Engineering-Medicine, USA.

He  is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)  Mathematical Sciences  Strategic Advisory Team (SAT),  he was a member (2013-2016) of the Scientific Committee of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) Joint Undertaking, he  served for more than 10 years in RTD Framework Programme  European Commission Committees, and  he has participated in OECD Roundtables. He is a recipient of the ENO Foundation for Transportation Fellowship (1986), the President's Medal Award (2005) of the British Operational Research Society, and the Edelman Laureate Honorary Medal (2008) of the Institute of Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Engineers of the University of Connecticut, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) and a Fellow of the Operational Research Society (FORS).

Professor Zografos has acted as consultant to projects funded by industry, governmental agencies, and international organizations including the European Commission, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and EUROCONTROL.
