Formerly at Lancaster University

Leonard Rainford

Profile

From a very early age I always wanted to run my own business and had several small enterprises before the age of 16. On leaving school I worked in Local Government Finance for 5 years to gain a background in accountancy, finance and law, before embarking on a career in sales and entrepreneurship.

I was a National Sales Manager at the age of 26 and started my first business at 27. Over the years I have held senior positions in several national companies. I have started, built and sold four other businesses and in March 2013 I sold my last company Sameday UK. I now use my knowledge and experience to help growing businesses add value, reach their goals and achieve success and happiness.

On a personal level I have always been passionate about sport, particularly football, which I played at semi-pro level for ten years, and am still playing. I coached kids rugby for five years at St Pat’s in Wigan and kids football at Culcheth. I am currently manager of Ashton Villa in the Wigan Amateur League, a team that I started five years ago at the request of several young players who I had coached as juniors.

I am a big believer in giving something back and helping young and disadvantaged people to develop. This is one of the reasons why I am involved in sport and why I do volunteer work as an EIR with the students at Lancaster University, they are the future of this country. I have also acted as a mentor through St. Helens Chamber of Commerce, Orivia and Lancaster University. I like to achieve my objectives and make a difference in whatever I set out to do.

I support several charities and have done numerous activities to raise funds including Bungee, Marathon, Triathlon, Rock Climbing, Sky Diving, White Water Rafting and of course Football Matches and Sportsmen’s Dinners. I am a member of Newton-le-Willows Rotary Club and have built a wide and varied network of business associates and connections.
