I am a part-time PhD student researching the cultural history of fell-walking in the English Lake District from the late eighteenth century.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1988 with a 2:1 BA (Hons) History, having been awarded the Russell Gurney Scholarship and Margaret Hastings prize by Girton College. I completed a dissertation on the ‘1871 Match Tax and the decline of the Liberal Party’ as part of my finals. I have worked in project management for most of my career, latterly running IT and business change projects in the City and most recently for Cumbria Community Foundation, winning a National Charity Award in 2015 for the Neighbourhood Care Independence Programme.
