Career Details

Dr. Richard Frimpong Oppong received his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Ghana, where he graduated with first class honours in 2001 and was awarded the VALCO book award for best graduating student in commercial law. In 2003, he qualified as a barrister in Ghana after completing the professional law programme at the Ghana School of Law. There, he was awarded the coveted and prestigious John Mensah Sarbah Prize for the best graduating student. He holds a first class Master of Law degree, in Commercial Law, from the University of Cambridge, where he was nominated Senior Scholar of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University, in 2003/4. He also received the David Pearl Prize for excellence in the LLM examinations. He holds a second Master of Law degree from the Harvard Law School. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in law degree from the University of British Columbia in Canada. He is a specialist on private international law. He focuses particularly on Commonwealth African countries. He has published many articles on the subject in leading international journals. He is currently completing a book on private international law in Commonwealth Africa.
