Rob Mitchell is Principal Social Worker for Adults, City of Bradford MDC and is co-chair of the Adult Principal Social Workers Network. Rob has adopted a distinctive and highly effective leadership style has resulted in substantial organisation change, particularly in relation to organisational culture and professional practice. He has a national profile for this work, evidenced by the award of Principal Social Worker of the Year Award at Social Worker of Year Awards 2015 while working at Calderdale Council.

Rob also has a national role in shaping policy and practice including membership of the Mental Capacity Act National Leadership Group and the Department of Health Chief Social Worker for Adults in England’s Advisory Group which sets national priorities for the profession. Rob is a passionate advocate for human rights based social work practice and has become a regular contributor to the Social Work qualifying programmes at Lancaster. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the department he will be involved in curriculum development and delivery on qualifying and post-qualifying social work programmes and contributing to research, engagement and impact as a member of the Centre for Disability Research (CeDR).
