Profile

My thesis focuses on the blue economy, exploring sovereignty over emerging resource frontiers in the context of the marine phosphate mining debate in Namibia. This research is funded by the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC Studentship 2015-19). Fieldwork: Namibia (2016,17,18) and South Africa (2017).

Additional Research


I am currently working on an independent research project on resource nationalism and the Trepca mining complex. This project analyses the Kosovar/Serbian context to examine how resource nationalism is challenged by disputed territories.
Field research: Serbia (2017) and Kosovo (2016, 17) 

Alongside my academic work, I undertake consultancy work focusing on environmental, social and governance issues in mineral supply chains. I have also worked with Mining Shared Value as a Researcher and with ITAD specialising in Climate Finance. Prior to my PhD I worked in film production, with a focus on science communication. Clients included the BBC's Natural History Unit.

Teaching 

In 2019 I worked as a Senior Associate Teacher in Human Geography at the University of Bristol. This post included dissertation supervisor responsibilities for 5 students on the MSc Environmental Policy and Management. I am also a part time Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Science at Oxford Brookes.
