My work:
I work developing materials and providing technical support for the online Doctorate in Mental Health, Doctorate in Organizational Health and Well-Being, Doctorate in Public Health and Doctorate in Palliative Care. I also provide Ndevelopment and support input for the HEIF funded Leadership For Sustainability Learning Network through the Managament Leadership and Learning department
I also provide advice on learning technology for the PGDip Improving Access to Psychological Therapies.
As Learning Technologist my role is to ensure that the we deliver a quality programme and support for our distance learning programmes through the Moodle VLE and via Adobe Connect for syncronous seminars and events. I also convene the induction module with a focus on good academic practice. I work closely with academic members of staff in setting up and running their learning activities and modules. I'm also keen to experiment with and assess the potential of new technologies and systems to support learning and research.
Research interests:
I have completed part I of the Doctoral Programme in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning undertaking small-scale research projects into researching into the potential for a virtual graduate college, the viability of turntin reports for improving academic practice at doctoral level. I have also undertaken research into mobile learning in informal learning communities.
I am now moving into my thesis work for part II of the where I will be undertaking a mixed methodology (online and sensory) ethnographic study of informal distance learning for taste training.
Career Details
I have previously worked with the Dept Educational Research as Learning Technologist setting up the Doctoral Programme in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning and as temportray learning technologist (maternity cover) for the Dept. Linguistics on their MA in Language Testing (By Distance) and MA in English Language (By Distance) programmes in 2009.
I have an MSc in TESOL from the University of Stirling in which I specialised in Computer Applications for Language Learning. I have previously worked for the BBC as an Interactive Course Developer and as a web designer in the UK, South Africa and Australia.
