Up2uni was a staff development programme designed to support practitioners advising prospective students about higher education. On behalf of the programme developers from Manchester Metropolitan University, REAP undertook two evaluations of this programme (Houghton and Moser 2007; Dempster and Houghton 2008). Our reports drew on responses made on post-session evaluation forms and through telephone interviews with educational practitioners and careers advisors from across the north west who made use of this programme. Our evaluations demonstrated that practitioners found Up2Uni a useful source of information about entry into HE, and that the sessions improved their confidence for their roles as providers of information, advice and guidance (IAG). Our research report will be of interest to agencies and consultancies which offer professional development for teachers, as well as those charged with improving IAG provision for learners seeking to enter higher education.
