A sole-authored exhibition at the Blue Gallery and throughout Brantwood (John Ruskin’s House), Coniston, Cumbria, April 16th – July 18th 2016 of 30 new works including audio-visual video piece and short dramatic film piece. The exhibition was supported by Arts Council England and Lancaster University and included a public forum and school workshops to create Tastes of Sustainability. This exhibition of my work involves working with 6 other specialists - in theatre, film making and sound recording. It had 68 participants - including a local school. There were 2678 visitors to the physical exhibition, the associated visual and sound pieces on YouTube have received 1250 views (by Feb. 2018); and a radio interview about the exhibition reached an audience of ca. 45,000.
This exhibition is an output of practiced-based design that combined the production of propositional (issues-based) design objects with literature review, writing and theory development in a descipline-appropriate, mutually informing process of Thinking-and-Doing. It involved developing new presentational techniques to engage with visitors (in the form of dramatized fictional pieces performed by an actor, which was filmed and presented at the exhibition. It also included and audio-visual exhibition piece, narrated by myself, as well as a workshop with the local school that involving creating menus and meals based on the children's reflections on their visit to the exhibition. There was also a public lecture, a BBC Radio Lancashire interview.
