This presentation aims to discuss the findings of a year-long research project examining the role of music festivals, and the places within which they are organized, in the music industry. To do so their authors interviewed several music professionals from Europe and America in order to understand how music festivals shape and influence the logics and practices of the music field in which they are positioned. The sample consists of music professionals with different backgrounds and occupational profiles. This presentation aspires to stimulate a productive discussion about music festivals and their growing importance in the independent music industry.
