The excitation gas in the A-phase at very low temperatures is concentrated in the region of the Fermi surface around the polar nodes in the gap and is thus almost one-dimensional. These low lying excitations are trapped by Andreev reflection in ''directional'' quantum wells created by the textural configuration. Although the vast bulk of quasiparticles at the lowest temperatures are in such states they have virtually no effect on the transport properties or on the damping of mechanical resonators since they have very little probability of ever reaching a surface.
