Abstract

Experience demonstrates the benefits and feasibility of suporting multimedia applications in distributed middleware architectures. However, deployment of multimedia-capable middleware platforms has not occurred on a large scale. This article describes designing such a platform and its attempts to maximize performance, predictability, and configurability in a standard workstation operating-system environment.
