N2 - This is an essay on Quentin meillassoux’ recent book After Finitude: An Essay on the Necessity of Contingency, placing it within recent discussions of the relationship between science, philosophy and the humanities. the book presents a strong critique of the linguistic turn in continental and analytic philosophy and argues for a retrieval of a realist notion of the power of reason. there are nonetheless a few remaining ontological problems identified towards the end of this review essay.
