Abstract

The authors review the development in multimedia workstations and identify the broad area of investigation required to enable the communication of multimedia information. Next, the Lancaster MNI project is outlined and its interface architecture and implementation described. Key research issues being tackled in the project are discussed, specifically quality of service and synchronization, then the network protocol emulator part of the project is briefly discussed. Finally, items of future work are identified
