N2 - Broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) is an ideal solution for providing high data rate communications where traditional landlines are either unavailable or too costly to be installed. In this paper we consider a number of alternative techniques to achieve high data rate and high quality of services requirements in these systems, including orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), turbo equalization as well as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques. In particular, the frequency domain OFDM scheme and time domain turbo equalization will be studied and compared in a MIMO BFWA context, in an attempt to provide some guidelines on how to design high data rate BFWA applications.
