Abstract

High-spin states in the neutron-deficient 113I nucleus have been investigated for the first time using the 58Ni(58Ni,3pγ) reaction. Gamma-ray coincidence data were acquired with the Eurogam spectrometer in conjunction with the Daresbury recoil mass separator. A deformed intruder band has been established extending to a spin approaching 40ħ and excitation energy 30 MeV. A possible structure for the band is discussed. This is the first evidence for such a band in this mass region with Z>51.
