Development of network monitoring tools for realtime rich-media (RTRM) applications remains a challenge for both academic and industrial researchers as the complexity of the computational processing varies dynamically. We propose a novel, flexible and cost effective technique which can be implemented in ordinary network environment to monitor QoS parameters such as packet-delay, packet-loss, packet sequence and jitter, of RTP based real-time video/audio applications without introducing the conventional packet processing delays between end points. We have implemented a test-bed to analyze the QoS parameters for real-time video streaming application. The initial test results prove that the proposed technique promises that the QoS experienced by end user can significantly be improved compared to the conventional methods.
