N2 - Small-signal gain is an important characteristic within the framework of overall travelling-wave tube (TWT) performance. The fabrication tolerances can determine different performances with respect to the required ones. In this letter an accurate evaluation of the effect of the helix wire tolerances on the TWT small-signal gain is proposed. The study is applied to a measured five-section TWT working in the 10-13 GHz frequency band. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons. Inc.
