This addendum supplements the methodological information provided in our evidence review on sedation at the end of life.1 The article adopted a focused approach based on detailed analysis of definition statements alone, irrespective of the wider text contained within the selected articles. This approach has the potential to not fully capture all aspects relating to the definitions discussed within these articles.

For example, our analyses indicated the definition statement proposed by the European Association for Palliative Care2 (p. 581) was underdeveloped; however, we acknowledge that some aspects were explored later in the article (pp. 581–588).
