Abstract

The test of three biopolymers were conducted using a modified pin-on-plate rig to evaluate whether the machine could be validated to the ASTM standard. The modification entailed the addition of rotational motion of the test pins, to give multi-directional motion. Pins were machined to form flat ended cylinders and articulated against stainless steel plates. The results show that the biopolymers subjected to multi-directional motion exhibited relevant values of wear and ASTM recommended targets were achieved.
