A mapping and meta-analysis of contemporary higher education research published in the English language outside North America. It involved the analysis of 406 articles published in 17 specialist academic journals in the year 2000, and of 284 books in print focusing on higher education in that year. The analysis examines the themes and issues studied, the methods and methodologies employed, the levels of analysis attempted, and the characteristics of the authors involved. One reviewer said that she 'couldn't understand how I'd had the patience and commitment to complete the task', and that the book 'would serve as a standard reference text for many years to come'. This book is being used as a basic text on relevant courses both in this country and internationally (e.g. in Germany), and is being translated for the Chinese market.
