Abstract

An analysis of the debates on the great crisis of the 1920s and 1930s among political economists on the Left, in Germany, Austria, France, Russia, Britain and the USA. Based upon books, unpublished manuscripts, journal articles and reports that were written during the period of 1929 to 1940. The difficutlies, weaknesses and strengths or ' Left' heterodox economic theorizing on the complexity of a great crisis are discussed and some parallels drawn with present debates on the crisis that started in 2007.
