Abstract

The article examines the formulation of the PTSD diagnosis in relation to the history of political attitudes to the Vietnam War and the relationship between veterans and their civilian compatriots. It examines the adequacy of the concept of "moral injury" as a description of the predicament of veterans, and addresses the formulaic nature of narratives of veterans' return to the United States that are sometimes invoked by authors who discuss "moral injury."
