Abstract

Continuous-wave UV laser light at 278 nm has been generated by optical second harmonic generation (SHG) in ß-BaB2O4 waveguides produced by He+ ion implantation. The production of ridge waveguides in this material is reported together with the waveguides properties. SHG conversion efficiency of 0.1 %W-1 has been demonstrated at 278 nm.
