The project “Accumulation by Segregation and Dispossession: Social Housing Policies and Racial Segregation in Brazilian Cities: A Pilot Study,” funded by FASS Catalyst Research Fund, investigates the often overlooked link between social housing policies and racial segregation in Brazilian cities. The primary goal is to understand how these policies contribute to the creation of racially segregated spaces and precarious living conditions, particularly affecting black and female populations.
This research is a collaborative effort involving the FragUrb Thematic Project at UNESP (State University of São Paulo), supported by FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation), and the Universidade Estadual do Rio Grande do Norte (UERN). The study focuses on three Brazilian cities: Mossoró, Cidade Tiradentes, and Ribeirão Preto.
The project began in July 2023 and is currently in its initial phase, with the possibility of extension through a research grant application.
