Alpha-induced Air Fluorescence even under daylight conditions

Project: Research

Description

Alpha radiation detection is time consuming and hazardous to carry out due to the short range of alpha particles in air. This project will investigate novel detection methods based on alpha-induced air fluorescence. These methods will be used in a nuclear decommissioning context to detect plutonium contaminated materials. The project involves collaboration with Dr Kelum Gamage, School of Engineering, University of Glasgow.
