CASE: Electromagnetic coupling between the sun and earth

Project: Research

Description

This project addresses the scientific details in the Sun-Earth connection, particularly in a UK and European continental setting. Therefore the collaboration brings together data from the BGS magnetic observatory network and the independent Sub-Auroral Magnetometer Network (SAMNET), operated by Lancaster University in the UK. Additional data will be obtained from international magnetometer and space physics networks, within which BGS and Lancaster have major roles and contacts. We will exploit BGS archives of induced currents in the UK power grid and new data will be sought from Scottish Power and the National Grid Company
