Project: Research

Description

This is a projects, to be funded through a cluster of related but distinguishable grant applications on a collaborative project (involving Finnegan, The National Archives, and the Museum of London) to research, map and then visualise the Thames waterfront from the City to Gravesend/Tilbury in the first half of the seventeenth century. This involves recovering the information about merchants, ships, inns, exchanges, churches, points of immigration and emigration, social and demographic mobility, the black presence in Britain and the role of London in developing colonialism and empire.
