Digital literacies as media ecology: a case study of communications around cricket.

Project: Research

The aim of the project is to compile and analyse data from a professional cricket commentator's use of new (Web 2.0) literacies and to understand these in the context of his other professional practices, including writing 'traditional' texts and oral cricket commentary. The central texts are taken from Twitter, a web-based forum where he conducts occasional question and answer sessions with members of the public and radio broadcasts. I also analyse a published book which includes his reflections on his own use of Web 2.0 literacies. Since the salient characteristic of Web 2.0 literacies is interactivity, the analysis necessarily includes his responses to other communications publicly aimed at him - emails read out on air, Twitter posts, questions on the forum etc. This study is one aspect of my continuing research into Twitter.
