Evaluation of Provider Perspectives and Experiences for the Review of Health [Termination of Pregnancy] Act 2018

Project: Consultancy

Description

Following a historic 2018 referendum, abortion access was liberalised in the Republic of Ireland. The new legislation required a three-year review of the operation of the new termination of pregnancy services. This project was a core part of the review and focused on health care provider experiences and perspectives. It was commissioned by the Minister for Health in 2022.

Layperson's description

In 2018, the Republic of Ireland overhauled its previously 'hyperrestrictive' abortion laws. This research was the first evaluation of the operation of termination of pregnancy services in the Republic of Ireland since this historic shift. The project focused on health providers' experiences and perspectives. It was commissioned by the Minister of Health as part of the legally mandated independent review.
