Formative Assessments and Feedback in the Law School: Improving Student Learning and Satisfaction

Project: Research

Description

The research will be examining the use of formative assessments and activities in the law school and student perceptions of these with regards to their impact on their learning and support for assessments. The research is important in determining the importance of formative assessments, and thus determining whether these should be incorporated across the school in our modules (the research will contribute to a departmental report I am creating). The research will arise through a mixture of literature review and a focus group. It is intended for colleagues in higher education, including those outside of the law school (if published).

Layperson's description

The aims of this research project are: to identify student perspectives on the use of formative activities; to determine the benefits of such assessments in aiding student development and learning; to consider whether formatives should be incorporated at programme level; and to determine how to incorporate formative activities into law and criminology modules at UG and PG level.
