Description

This project focuses on the rise of modern medicine in Lancaster, Lancashire. Scientific advances undoubtedly had a global impact on medical education, the technology of medical practice and the professional domain of the practitioner. The project aims to provide a general sketch of health, medicine and society in nineteenth century Lancaster in order to gain an appreciation of the living standards and health concerns during this period. This project thus aims to identify the healthcare challenges faced by many and identify key individuals that shaped healthcare in Lancaster.
