Spatial Distribution of Blood Flow in Peripheral Vein Network by Non-Invasive Near-Infrared Imaging

The present study developed a non-invasive device that observes and maps the venous human palm network. The main aim was to measure biological parameters such as oxygen consumption. This was achieved with the implementation of low-intensity, near-infrared light, which was used deduce changes of chromophore concentration during a venous occlusion.
This project aimed to improve upon work already completed within the department. More specifically, the aim was to optimise an optical system that was suitable for both 2D and 3D reflectance tomography. An additional aim was to produce a user-friendly graphical interface that enabled the control of the imaging process at all stages. Moreover, further analysis of the captured images was undertaken in order to attempt to observe changes in oxygenation across the palm. Lastly, this study aimed to design and manufacture a 3D rotating rig in order to capture angled projections that could be used in future to perform 3D tomography.
