A Model Archive
Activity: Participating in or organising an event types › Participation in workshop, seminar, course
As part of the ERSC's Festival of Social Science (7-15 Nov 2020, online), The Ruskin ran an online workshop 'A Model Archive'.
Drawing on Ruskin’s ideas about craft and society, ‘A Model Archive’ set out to unsettle existing concepts of the design archive; explore new ways of interpreting objects and the stories of the people who imagined, made and used them; and speculate on the future of the archive in a digital world.
On 11 November, I chaired an online workshop to explore the role of the design archive in creative practice and everyday life with writer, broadcaster and former director of The Design Museum, Deyan Sudjic OBE; artist and curator Jamie Holman, textile designer-maker Dalia James, Festival Director of the National Festival of Making, Lauren Zawadzki and Director of LICA at Lancaster University, Professor Judith Mottram.
