14/03/2019

The Académie des sciences is spreading the message about the importance of insects amongst the scientific community and the civil society by dedicating its first Grand Conference, at the Insitute de France in Paris, to the expanding subject. The invitation was extended by Academie including Nobel Prize winner Jules Hoffmann.

Through presentations from internationally recognised experts, this conference addressed the key topics of insect biology, from their interaction with the environment to their use in the biomedical and ecological research. Dr Rod Dillon was invited to present a talk on 'sandflies and leishmaniasis', he talked about transdisciplinary interactions and the importance of public engagement. His talk included video footage of some of his public engagement activities on tropical medicine and the urgent need for further funding.
