Advances in dynamical models of speech: Frontiers and applications

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

18/08/2025

What are the principles that govern the control of time-varying, high-dimensional vocal tract movements? This talk reviews advances in dynamical models of speech production, spanning (non)linear, (non)autonomous, and cognitive/biomechanical models. I also review applications of dynamical models for speech processing, including acoustic-articulatory inversion, dysarthric speech recognition and phonetic theory, and outline emerging frontiers where such models could play a fundamental role.
