Crossing Borders: Yudai Kamisato’s Theatre

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic Lecture/ Debate/Seminar

16/03/2023

This online seminar showcases the work of Kishida Award-winning Japanese playwright and director Yudai Kamisato, whose works deal with themes of people and cultures crossing borders, migration and the absence of Otherness in Japanese society. Obie Award-winning Aya Ogawa's translation of Kamisato's Happy Prince Fish (2019) receives its first public reading. This surreal noh parody offers a lament to the native Lake Biwa fish being devoured by an alien species. An excerpt from his recent production Immigrant Ghost Stories (Okinawa, October 2022) will be shown (subtitled in English), followed by a discussion.
