Keynote entitled 'A Space for Time: Temporality and Design in the Museum'
Technological and economic innovation is usually foregrounded in studies of the future. But cultural values, beliefs and legacies, and the historical work that informs them, are as essential as science and economics for anticipatory practices: our relationship with past, present and future is dynamic and contextual This presentation will explore the historical role of the Museums in the imagination of futures, taking the collections of the V&A, one of the world’s oldest Museums of Art and Design, as a case study. In particular, the presentation will explore how the methods by which social institutions signal and shape directions of change reveal new ways of thinking about time and temporality. How can design challenge established ways of thinking about time and temporality within the museum?
